Enterprises Around the World to Compete in the International Cyber League (ICL) Americas Cyber Cup

Miami, Florida – April  17, 2023 – Cyberbit, the world’s leading cyber skills development and readiness platform, and Miami Dade College (MDC), designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity by the NSA, announced today that they are partnering to run the International Cyber League (ICL) Americas Cyber Cup. The ICL Americas Cyber Cup follows the format of successful ICLs held over the last five years for the enterprise, finance, and higher education sectors where cybersecurity defense teams competed in tournaments that simulated live-fire, real-world cyberattacks like the attacks encountered on the job.

Miami Dade College and Cyberbit have a long history of collaboration, going back to the opening of the MDC Cyber Range training facility in 2018. The training center uses Cyberbit’s cyber range to provide hands-on cyber skills development for cybersecurity students and professionals.

The ICL Americas Cyber Cup is open to organizations’ cyber defense teams who will be challenged with cyber labs that test their individual knowledge and live-fire exercises that test their incident response skills and their ability to work as a team. The live-fire exercises are powered by Cyberbit’s cyber range, which immerses teams in a virtual security operations center (SOC) that includes enterprise-grade networks and commercial security tools and simulates a real-world cyber-attack. Teams are required to detect and respond to the live attack and are scored according to the response time and their overall detection, investigation, and remediation performance.

“Miami Dade College is committed to leading the growth of the region’s cybersecurity workforce and helping to raise the cyber readiness levels of public and private entities,” said Jorge Ortega, Director of Cybersecurity Center of the Americas. “We believe that competitions like the ICL Americas Cyber Cup are a vital component of cyber readiness, providing critical hands-on experience and the chance to perform as a team under pressure. Cyberbit’s cyber range offers a strategic capability for testing and validating cyber skills and playbooks in a hyper-realistic environment that simulates an experience as close as possible to a real-world incident.”

“We are very excited to join MDC in its vital efforts to grow cyber readiness and resilience by developing and training elite cybersecurity professionals,” said Susan Green, Senior National Director at Cyberbit. “The ICL Americas Cup allows cyber defense teams to stress-test their technical skills and essential softs skills like teamwork and communication. By leveraging Cyberbit’s cyber range, cyber defense teams can develop, test and benchmark their cyber defense skills, helping them identify performance gaps and strengths and master the skills they need to become leaders in the field.”

The competition kicks off May 22nd, 2023, with the final round ending July 14th. Registration has already opened and closes May 22nd, 2023, the day of the kickoff. The winning teams will walk away with premium prizes including a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro, an iPad Pro 11, an Apple Watch Series 8, and an Apple Air Pod Pro.
